Spiegeloog 446: Revolution

Spiegeloog 446: ‘Revolution’ – Editorial

By  and October 19, 2026No Comments

Dear Readers,

Welcome back! As the calm of the summer holidays fades into memory and our brains get filled with theories, models, and experiments, we must once again take up arms against our studies and exams. We join you in that endeavour in Spiegeloog 446: Revolution, taking up arms against the status quo of psychology, society, and our own lives.

Cover by Jules Kotowicz

Jule starts the issue by looking at the nature of revolution itself, examining how some acts are designed more to make us feel good than to make a difference.

Staying in the personal, Claudia’s article on the return to analog media looks at the ways we can enact change for ourselves, while Elena takes things broader and her interview with Johnny van Doorn about JASP shows how UvA’s very own are taking it to SPSS little by little. For more 2026 topics, Anjali shows the ways that apps like Tinder have changed dating in the 21st century, and Pip cuts into the latest trend of reveal cakes. Manu interviews Oscar Westra van Holthe to talk about how to make change in imbalanced systems, an appetizer for Denny Boorsboom’s Ivory Tower on AI intelligence tests and Zhen’s introspective look at how AI is changing the job application game for the worse. Finally, Mavi canvasses Mark Rothko’s works and what makes them so powerful, and Marie’s Tabula Rasa completes the cycle of change by diving into the utopic island of Pala in Aldous Huxley’s book Utopia.

We hope you have a wonderful academic year, and thank you as always for reading.
