“Hortus Botanicus- As someone passionate about plants, I am particularly drawn to tropical varieties. Just something about the lush foliage and vibrant blooms captivates me. The greenhouses stand out as the most impressive of all the botanical collections. The botanists’ ability to replicate the original environment is unique and transports you to a different world. But what took my breath away was the butterfly exhibit. There’s nothing quite like standing amid these delicate creatures as they flit and flutter around you. It’s a truly magical experience that always leaves me in awe. Recently, I had the chance to revisit this beautiful location with my partner and create a special memory.”

“I feel like Noordermarkt on the Saturday Market is very fun and wholesome regardless of the weather, interacting with nice vendors, trying samples of homemade goods, and grabbing a drink or snack with your friends :)”

“The Amsterdamse Bos- Easily reachable nature location, there is also a petting zoo and a cafe.”

“Bambino- Beginning of the year I met someone and we would always go together to bambino. This person is now one of my closest friends. I will always cherish the talks and Negronis we shared there, helping me overcome this cold winter.”

“The Book Exchange- It has a great collection of books which are reasonably priced and also a friendly owner who cares about the quality of the books and the organization of the store :)”

“LAB111- They always have a great lineup of movies Both classics and new releases. the theatre also has good sound and visuals. There’s a bar on the premises that plays good music and serves nice pizza. :)”

“The Bagels & Beans (Paranassusweg)- This is the place I go to for nostalgia and to reignite memories. It always brews the best conversations and has a vibrant atmosphere. Plus, I love bagels and coffee:)).”

“Kafenion- Good vibes, good coffee, and good music – also their bougatsa (pies) are delicious.”

“De Kanarie Club- Love the ambience. The green interior s super soothing and makes you feel like you can cover an entire semester’s work in 30 minutes. It has charging points, great fries, coffee and the FoodHallen next to it! You can work and relax at the same time =).”

“Even though Zaandvort Beach is a little bit outside of Amsterdam, it is easily reachable by public transport and a very good option to quickly be outside of the city and to experience a little bit of nature. I personally love the smell and the sight of the ocean and find the waves and wind very calming and assuring if I am ever in a very bad mood.”

“Proeflokaal ‘t Nieuwe Diep in Flevopark- It’s a serene, tucked away distillery by a lake in Flevopark with fantastic beers, cheese and mustard, a little beer garden and seats by the water.”

“The cafe in the Botanical Garden (Horcus Botanicus)- It has really nice teas, a no-laptop policy, and is surrounded by lush nature. Very peaceful environment and nice to visit with friends.”

“ICEAmsterdam- Every year I try to “learn” and I still need a chair to push myself around to ensure I do not plummet to the floor unceremoniously. It’s super unfortunate that it’s not going to be up this year, but definitely a long-standing tradition of cold, pain, and torture, that I enjoy dearly with friends.”
